1. Acceptance and scope
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your use of official Edendale applications and the Edendale website (together, the “Service”). The Service is provided by BaBaSaMa (“we”, “us”, or “our”).
By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Platform marketplace terms also apply. For an Edendale binary obtained through Apple, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement exclusively governs the licence to install and use that Apple binary. These Terms govern the website, integrations, acceptable use, and other Service features to the extent they do not conflict with Apple’s agreement. Rights that cannot lawfully be excluded continue to apply.
2. What Edendale provides
Edendale is a local-first video player and personal watch tracker. It can:
- play compatible media that you select from local storage or a supported network location;
- classify filenames and create a private library index;
- retrieve movie and television metadata from TMDB;
- search for and download subtitles when you ask it to;
- save watch progress, favourites, watchlist choices, ratings, and preferences; and
- synchronize certain personal records through your own platform account or an optional TMDB account where the feature is available.
Edendale does not sell, supply, host, or provide a streaming catalogue of movies or television episodes. Playback comes directly from a local file or network source that you select. TMDB metadata, subtitles, and YouTube trailers are third-party services, not media supplied by Edendale.
The Edendale website is informational. It describes the applications, links to the project’s source code, and answers app links so that a shared Edendale link can open in an installed app. It is not a video player and provides no account, library, or playback feature.
3. Eligibility
You must be legally able to enter into these Terms. If you are below the age at which you may enter a contract in your country, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you.
4. Licence to use the official Service
Except for an Apple binary governed by Apple’s agreement, and subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable licence to use official Edendale distributions for lawful personal purposes on devices you own or control, subject to the applicable platform’s usage rules.
Edendale’s source code is available under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. That licence governs the covered source code and modifications to it; these Terms do not replace or restrict the rights it grants. The MPL 2.0 does not grant rights to Edendale’s name, trademarks, or branding. Third-party components remain subject to their own notices and licences.
5. Your media and lawful use
You are responsible for every file, folder, network share, subtitle, and other item you open through Edendale. You represent that you own the content or have the permissions needed to access and play it.
You must not use Edendale to:
- infringe copyright, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
- access files, accounts, devices, or network shares without authorization;
- defeat digital rights management, access controls, or technical protections in violation of applicable law;
- distribute unlawful, harmful, or infringing content; or
- use the Service for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose.
Edendale’s ability to open a file does not grant you rights to that file.
6. Local files and network shares
You choose the files and locations Edendale may access. You are responsible for maintaining your files, permissions, network shares, credentials, device security, and backups.
Playback can fail because a file moved, a removable volume was disconnected, a bookmark or permission expired, a network share is offline, a codec is unavailable on your device, or a format is unsupported. Selecting a file does not guarantee that its container, video codec, audio codec, subtitles, or other streams can be decoded.
Edendale is not a backup service. You should maintain independent copies of important files and personal records.
7. Personal ratings and watch records
Ratings and watch records are personal organizational features for your own use. They are not a public review service and are not published by Edendale.
On supported platforms, connecting a TMDB account may cause favourites, watchlist entries, and ratings to synchronize with TMDB. You are responsible for reviewing and managing information stored in that account.
8. TMDB metadata and account features
Edendale uses the TMDB API for metadata, images, search, ratings, cast, recommendations, and trailer references. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
TMDB content may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, changed, or removed. It belongs to its respective owners and is provided subject to TMDB’s Terms of Use, API Terms, and other applicable policies.
If you connect a TMDB account, you authorize Edendale to perform the account actions you request. You may disconnect the account through Edendale and manage or delete information directly through TMDB. We are not responsible for TMDB account availability, decisions, or data.
9. Subtitle search
Edendale can search for subtitles through Wyzie Subs, a third-party service. Edendale contacts it only when you start a search. Subtitle files come from that service and its sources, not from BaBaSaMa.
We do not control the availability, accuracy, timing, completeness, language quality, or rights status of a third-party subtitle file, and we do not review its contents before you download it. You are responsible for complying with the subtitle service’s terms and with the law that applies to you. The service may require an API key that you obtain and enter yourself; you are responsible for keeping it confidential and for use made under it.
10. YouTube trailers
Trailers are optional third-party content. Edendale opens or embeds YouTube only after you choose a trailer action. YouTube may show advertising and may collect or process information under Google’s and YouTube’s terms.
We do not control a trailer’s availability, accuracy, age suitability, advertising, rights, or content. You use YouTube at your own discretion and are responsible for complying with its terms.
11. Website acceptable use
The website is a set of static pages served by a third-party host. When using it, you must not:
- probe, attack, disrupt, or attempt unauthorized access to the site or its hosting infrastructure;
- run automated requests that place unreasonable load on it;
- submit malicious code or intentionally exploit a vulnerability; or
- misrepresent an affiliation with Edendale, BaBaSaMa, TMDB, Apple, Google, or Microsoft.
We and our host may block abusive traffic or restrict access to protect users and infrastructure.
12. Intellectual property and third-party content
Edendale’s name, icon, visual identity, and official website presentation are owned by BaBaSaMa or licensed to us. No trademark licence is granted except as needed to refer truthfully to the Service.
Movies, television programs, subtitles, posters, backdrops, cast images, metadata, trailers, trademarks, and other third-party material remain the property of their respective owners. Edendale does not claim ownership of your media or third-party catalogue content.
Third-party and open-source components are subject to their own notices and licences.
13. Privacy and platform storage
The Privacy Policy explains Edendale’s local storage, platform backup and sync, optional account connections, and third-party requests. By enabling iCloud, Android backup, OneDrive, TMDB account sync, a network share, subtitle search, or YouTube trailers, you also use a service controlled by that provider and subject to its terms.
14. Updates, availability, and changes
The Service is under active development. We may add, change, suspend, or remove features, platforms, integrations, or the website. We do not guarantee that the Service or a third-party provider will always be available, compatible, secure, or error-free.
Updates may be required for security or compatibility. You are responsible for installing supported versions and maintaining a compatible device, network, and operating system.
15. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, with all faults and without warranties of any kind, express, implied, or statutory. This includes implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, and quiet enjoyment.
We do not warrant that:
- a file or codec will play;
- filename classification or TMDB matching will be correct;
- metadata, ratings, cast, subtitles, or trailers will be accurate or available;
- watch progress, ratings, or synchronization will never be lost, duplicated, delayed, or inconsistent; or
- the Service will meet your particular technical or compatibility requirements.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BaBaSaMa and its contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential loss, or for loss of data, media, progress, ratings, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business interruption, arising from or connected with the Service.
Except where Apple’s Standard EULA controls liability for the Apple binary, where liability cannot be excluded but may be limited, our total aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of:
- the amount you paid directly to us for Edendale during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
- SGD 50.
This section does not limit liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
17. Apple-specific acknowledgements
For an Edendale application obtained through Apple, Apple’s Standard EULA exclusively governs the binary licence, including its rules about permitted use, maintenance and support, warranties, product claims, intellectual-property claims, and Apple as a third-party beneficiary. If these Terms conflict with Apple’s Standard EULA about that binary licence, Apple’s agreement controls.
BaBaSaMa remains the application provider and support contact for Edendale: long@babasama.com.
18. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may restrict access to the website if you materially breach these Terms, create security or legal risk, or abuse the site or its host.
On termination, any non-Apple licence granted by these Terms ends. The Apple binary licence remains governed by Apple’s Standard EULA. Provisions that by their nature should survive—including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, governing law, and third-party terms—will continue to apply. The MPL 2.0 source-code licence remains governed by its own terms.
19. Governing law and disputes
Except for the Apple binary licence governed by Apple’s Standard EULA, these Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The courts of Singapore will have jurisdiction, except where the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country gives you the right to use another law, forum, or dispute process.
Before starting formal proceedings, you and BaBaSaMa agree to make a reasonable good-faith effort to resolve the issue by email, unless urgent relief or applicable law makes that impractical.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when the Service, providers, or legal requirements change. We will revise the Last updated date and provide additional notice where appropriate. If you do not agree to revised Terms, you must stop using the Service. Changes will not remove rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
